การเปลี่ยน Simple Sentence เป็น Complex Sentence
ถาม : เราจะเปลี่ยน Simple Sentence เป็น Complex Sentence ได้อย่างไร ขอให้อธิบายมาพร้อมยกตัวอย่างประกอบด้วย
ตอบ : ประโยค Simple Sentence แปลว่า “เอกัตถะประโยค” หมายถึง “ประโยคที่มีกริยาแท้ (Finite Verb) เพียงตัวเดียว ส่วนคำอื่นๆ จะมีมากหรือน้อยอย่างไรก็ได้” เราสามารถเปลี่ยน Simple Sentence เป็น Complex Sentence ได้โดยการขยายคำหรือวลีที่มีอยู่ใน Simple Sentence นั้นไปเป็น Subordinate Clause โดยอาศัย Subordinate Conjunction (อนุสันธาน) เป็นตัวเชื่อมหรือนำประโยคให้ ตัวอย่างเช่น
Simple : I am sure of your success.
ผมมั่นใจว่าคุณต้องประสบความสำเร็จ
Complex = I am sure that you will succeed. (Noun Clause)
ผมมั่นใจว่าคุณจะต้องประสบความสำเร็จ
Simple : Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is situated on the left bank of the Chao Praya River.
กรุงเทพเมืองหลวงของประเทศไทยตั้งอยู่บนซ้ายของแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา
Complex = Bangkok, which is the capital of Thailand, is situated on the left bank of the Chao Praya River.
กรุงเทพฯ ซึ่งเป็นเมืองหลวงของประเทศไทย ตั้งอยู่บนฝั่งซ้ายของแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา (Adjective Clause)
Simple : On reaching home, they went to bed.
พอมาถึงบ้าน พวกเขาก็ไปนอน
Complex = As soon as they reached home, they went to bed, (Adverb Clause)
ทันทีที่พวกเขามาถึงบ้าน พวกเขาก็ไปนอน
Simple : I have no money to spare you.
ผมไม่มีเงินที่จะแบ่งให้คุณ
Complex = I have no money that I can spare you.
ผมไม่มีเงินที่ผมสามารถแบ่งให้คุณได้ (Adjective Clause)
Simple : My grandfather died at the age of seventy-five.
ปู่ของผมตายเมื่ออายุได้ 75 ปี
Complex = My grandfather died when he was seventy-five years old.
ปู่ของผมตาย เมื่อท่านอายุได้ 75 ปี (Adverb Clause)
Simple : He paid off his brother’s debts.
เขาชำระหนี้ให้น้องชายของเขา
Complex = He paid off the debts which his brother had contracted.
เขาชำระหนี้สินซึ่งน้องชายของเขาได้ทำสัญญาไว้
(Adjective Clause)
การเปลี่ยน Simple Sentence เป็น Complex Sentence
